Are you one among the many people who are considering to invest in a wallmounted ethanol fireplace? Then it’s probably wise to read further into this article, as i will unveil my answers to some of the most common questions i get when selling a wall mounted ethanol fireplace.
Short about Wall Mounted Ethanol Fireplaces
This new kind of fireplace is quite unique. It is a eco-friendly and flueless fireplace due to one simple reason: the fuel. The ethanol fireplaces utilize bioethanol as a source of flames, heat and comfort. When the fuel is consumed by flames, nothing is left but a very small amount of water and CO2. The amount is so small that the fireplaces can be used indoors safely.
One of many wallmounted fireplaces
Which fireplace should I choose?
That depends completely on your taste and budget, but those two factors should not be the only factors driving your decision.
We usually encourage our customers to consider products that are
Approved by organizations such as SP Sitac, Swedcert, TÜV or similar
Priced above 500 £ (to ensure quality and safety)
Sold by a domestic retailer (in order to enforce local legislation)
These points are really important to me, as I want to ensure that the customers I have can feel safe with their fireplace. I could easily sell products that compromised on these points, but I believe that the long term business of bioethanol fireplaces require and obsession with safety. Better safe than sorry!
Where can I hang the fireplace?
The wall mounted fireplace come with different installation manuals which you should always follow. If you have found the fireplace for your home, ask for the installation manual before taking the final step. This is a simple way to ensure that you can meet the installation requirements. Not doing so will usually remove any responsibility from the retailer or manufacturer.
That being said, a wall mounted ethanol fireplace can be hung on almost any wall, including:
Plaster walls
Stone walls
Concrete walls
Wood walls
It is important to note that the different walls require different installations. A plaster wall require expansion raw-pluggs, whereas a wood wall require longer screws.
The most important thing to ensure is that the wall can carry the weight of the fireplace. On average a quality wall hung fireplace weighs between 20-35 kg, which most walls should be able to hold if the installation is made correctly. I usually ask: does your (big) flatscreen hang on the wall? If yes – then no problem.
As a final note, let me just give you some quick installation pointers
Make sure the brackets are safely mounted, leveled and that the wall can carry the weight
If the wall can’t carry the weight you can reinforce it or consider a fireplace insert
Remember the 1m. safety distance to flammable material such as paintings or curtains
Not perfectly sure? Hire a professional, it’s not that expensive!
What about safety?
Thanks for asking – it shows you are responsible, and with a fireplace (regardless of type) you have to be aware of the various dangers. Regarding safety there are several aspects.
First off, the placement of the fireplace is an important aspect. Is it place in a hallway with a lot of traffic? Or is it in a cousy corner with people enjoying it from the distance?. With the first location I would suggest a model with a glass cover that protects the fire. In the second I would leave it completely up to taste.
Secondly, there is many safety measures you should take when using an ethanol fuelled fireplace. You can read our article about bioethanol fireplaces and safety here.
